Wizz Air serves the Bosnian capital Sarajevo
From June 14 new destination from Saarbrücken Airport
New destination and new partner at Saarbrücken Airport: Wizz Air, Europe's fastest growing airline, will be flying non-stop from SCN to Sarajevo from Tuesday, June 14. Flights will be operated twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
For Wizz Air, the new partner airport in Saarbrücken rounds off its range of services in Germany, with the airline also looking to nearby France. To date, Wizz Air serves ten German airports with a focus on Eastern and Southeastern Europe.
The Chairman of the SCN Supervisory Board, Economics Minister Jürgen Barke, is delighted with the new connection: "Eastern destinations are also becoming increasingly important for Saarbrücken Airport, both for travelers from these countries and for tourists. In addition, new perspectives may open up for the Saarland economy in terms of recruiting employees. It is particularly pleasing that with Wizz Air we have been able to win the industry leader for Eastern European destinations, a rock-solid partner that will continue to grow even in difficult times."
Airport Managing Director Thomas Schuck also attaches great importance to Wizz Air's commitment. "We are delighted that our efforts to attract Wizz Air, which have been ongoing for some time, have led to success. In terms of Eastern Europe, Sarajevo is a start, more connections can follow. The market, i.e. the employees from these regions, their relatives and acquaintances as well as the catchment area for city tourism, seems to be there. We are well equipped for this at Saarbrücken Airport."

The new destination
Sarajevo is the capital of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and has about 300,000 inhabitants. The city became famous after the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the Austrian throne, which triggered the First World War. It was the venue of the 1984 Winter Olympics. Sights include the oriental-style old town with several mosques and churches, the bazaar and numerous stores. The old town was renovated after the war. The International Commercial Airport (SJJ) is located only a few kilometers from the city center.
